These are the current adoptable horses located in the state of Indiana (click on each picture to view larger image). USERL requires that all adopted horses be checked on a yearly basis. If the adopter does not live within a reasonable driving distance of a USERL volunteer capable of doing the check, it is the responsibility of the adopter to arrange for the check to be done by a licensed veterinarian that will report the outcome of the check to USERL. Click here to learn more about adopting an equine from the USERL and to fill out an adoption form. Please allow up to 7 days for your application to be processed and for someone to get in contact with you. If you do not get a response in 7 days, please contact USERL directly at 800-650-8549.

Marni (Lilo) is a very sweet horse. She is very healthy and was a very good mother to Crystal. Marni loves attention and being groomed. She is a submissive mare and will avoid a confrontation anyway possible. There appears to be no health or lameness issues. I (the foster) really enjoy having her on our farm. She is very easy to get along with.

Aramis is three months old and is quite handsome. He was gelded on the 9th of July and has recovered from the procedure. He is a picture of health and loves being groomed ( if his cousin Crystal will even let him get groomed). In this picture, Aramis is still shedding out his baby hair.

This is Crystal and she is 5 months old She is doing very well and is quite a lovely mover and she is extremely affectionate. She loves to be handled and groomed. As of 21 July 2007 Crystal has no health issues considering the fact she was frozen to the ground when she was born also considering she was at least a month premature. What an absolute miracle she survived. As you can see, her little ears have been clipped to remove the frostbite she received after birth. Other than that, she is ready for a home that can wait until she is 3 years old to start under saddle.

UPDATE (October 2006): Roman has been 100% sound for 4 months and no signs of any further abscesses! His foster home rode him last week and he did wonderfully – she feels he will make someone a very nice horse. I question if jumping will be good for him and would like a vet exam to clear him for such activity first, but he would make a wonderful hunter or western pleasure horse – he has such neat coloring. Roman is a rescue straight from the racetrack – his owner donated him to USERL when he was injured while racing – his other option was the auction house. Roman has problems with abscesses in both front feet do to poor hooves and an abscess to his left hind leg from an old injury. He is slowly getting better though and the occurrence of the hoof abscess continues to diminish. We are hopeful he will be sound for riding once we get him through this and get him up to proper weight. He is a very bright chestnut with really neat white spots on his coat. He is a more dominant personality with horses but is very easy to work with.

Bonfire is a very easy keeper, catches easy in the field, LOVES to have his face scratched. Is being worked with on riding essentials, he lunges very well, and saddles up easily. Takes a Bridle without much fuss, still needs work on "STOP", so he definitely needs an experienced rider. He stands nicely for the farrier and ties good. He does have issues with any kind of SPRAY! (Fly Spray, Water, etc…) wipes are best right now, but working on it. Takes a Bath "OK", as long as it is done at a slow pace. He adores children, is a real sweet heart, a comedian, and super smart, can (AND WILL) open any gate or door that is NOT "LOCKED". He loves to be around people in general. He will make a great horse for anyone willing to put a little time in on finishing his training.
