| February 11th 2008 USERL Guest Speaker for Muncie Light Horse Club in Indiana The USERL would like to thank all the members of the Muncie Light Horse Club for inviting us out to speak at the meeting! We met a lot of very nice people and the food was great! The United States Equine Rescue League, Inc. (USERL) was the guest speaker for the members meeting on Monday February 11th 2008 for the Muncie Light Horse Club, P.O. Box 3141 Muncie, IN. 47307. The meeting took place at Grissom Elementary (3201 Macedonia, Muncie) cafeteria. The carry-in began at 6:30pm and the speaker started at 7:00pm. USERL spoke on the topics of horse rescue and horse slaughter laws. This is a popular topic as the government shuts down slaughter houses to horses. Also, with the hay crisis and poor economy thousands of horses are suffering in Indiana and other states. Some people resort to simply dumping their horses off on back roads or park areas. This has created an overload for horse rescues who were already suffering with the high hay prices. The USERL (a non-profit organization) is dedicated to the compassionate care of equines. Our missing is to save, protect, and rehabilitate equines in need. We educate horse-owners and the public about proper equine care and the problems of neglect, abuse and slaughter. |

| February 13th, 2008 Indiana Humane Lobby Day - USERL The Indiana Humane Lobby Day was a great success in being able to talk to all of our Senators and House Representatives about the needed changes or additions in laws pertaining to animal cruelty and neglect in Indiana! I met lots of very wonderful people involved in rescue, shelters, animal control, law enforcement, and other concerned citizens of Indiana. They were all great and all had wonderful stories to tell of the rescued animals they have dealt with. I, representing the United States Equine Rescue League, Inc., attended and was able to speak with State Representative Terri Austin and Senator Tim Lanane. Both Representative Austin and Senator Lanane were genuinely concerned for the well-being of the animals in Indiana and were more than happy to listen to what I had to say. Representative Austin also stated she would like to speak with the USERL and the Indiana Horse Council further to go over the needed laws in Indiana pertaining to all Equine. The bills that we discussed in the meeting for Equine were SB193 http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2008&session=1&request=getBill&doctype=SB&docno=0193 , SB313 http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2008&session=1&request=getBill&doctype=SB&docno=0313 , and HB1254 http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2008&session=1&request=getBill&doctype=HB&docno=1254 , along with other subjects needing discussed further about laws for Equine in Indiana. We also talked about things such as Dog Fighting http://www.hsus.org/acf/fighting/dogfight/ , Canned Hunting http://www.hsus.org/hunt/campaigns/canned/ , and Live Coyote Sales http://www.hsus.org/hunt/news/wildlife_penning_exposed.html . I would like to thank Senator Lanane and Representative Austin on behalf of the United States Equine Rescue League, Inc. for taking the time to speak with me on these matters. I would also like to thank Anne Sterling, the Indiana State Director for The Humane Society of the United States, for putting this day together for all the concerned citizens of Indiana and for helping to give our Indiana Animals a voice!
